I bought the one hour content book and I was shocked. It was a decent book with a very detailed laid out plan. I won't say this one doesn't have a plan it does. But the plan in this book has little to do with the title. She talks about a frame work that includes how you sell to your customers. It's 5 points in which you make a sale. The frame work it self is decent but a little watered down. We all know we need a customer avatar. She even dives into her content marketing book a little and talks about blogging and email so she is sticking to what she knows. The book holds you accountable but it falls short at delivering its promise. It's a clever title that has zero input on how to get 100 customers. She implies that by working on your 5 touch points you'll create a better experiences but fails to really explain how to get people in the door. Writing 5 or 10 blog posts may generate some traffic but it's a tactic used by many people and it's not going to generate customers. For me the books a meh. It wasn't bad, but compared to other book a like Story Brand or the One Page Marketing Plan, it's lacking a lot.

I'm not new to Meera Kothand. Recently, I took an email course on newsletters from her, and was immediately hooked. So when she announced the release of Your First 100, I had to run to look at it, because in my "other" life/business, I'm working to start up a mentoring business to support the writing part of my life. (Reading supports the bookstore, mentoring supports the writing)Your First 100 is no-nonsense and right to the point, but this isn't one of those cheap-ey, short-form PDF books that so many online businesses bandy about. Meera dives in deep, provides resources, and give concise advice about how to build your audience from the ground up. All the way up through converting your audience to paying clients and beyond, to ensuring that those paying clients come back again and again, because of the consistent customer journey that delights them.Admittedly, I haven't finished the worksheets that Meera provides to help you through the process. I started to, and then got a bit lost in just enjoying what she was saying. Now that I've finished it, I'm going back to the beginning to work through the homework and worksheets that correspond to each section. If you are launching any online business... If you already have an online business... Especially if your online business is struggling - you need this book.It won't overwhelm you with how to grow your Facebook page, or get more Twitter followers. This is a no-nonsense and down to earth approach to providing the best, authentic version of what you offer to your ideal customers

You have to hand it to Meera Kothand, her brand is on point. Her blog posts are incredible and her content is both rousing and relatable. Your first 100 is a great book for beginners in the online space, or even offline but... Unfortunately I was at a different stage in the buyers journey when I read it. If you've done your research thoroughly, or your business is already established, Kothand book is a reminder more than anything. As always though, she writes with flare and ease, so you'll breeze through the book and be able to immediately apply the lessons if there are any you're not already doing. It's a solid little read but definitely targeted at beginners and as an entry point to Kothand's superb online repertoire. If you're not on her email list you need to be, that's where the real magic happens.

This book was a lot to take in - and I mean that in the best way! I am a fan of Meera Kothand - her email list and other book "One Hour Content Plan" are jam packed with actionable information, so I knew what to expect. This book still took me by surprise - there's so much really important information PLUS all those exercises! It actually took me a while to get through the book, because I was working through the bonus pack and answering the questions as I read. I had some serious break throughs, too - which felt so great. Everyone has probably done a version of the dreaded "Ideal Customer" exercise - and I have too (more than once!). I redid it this time, after reading the chapters in the book and one of the sentences I wrote down about my brand was PERFECTION. I've always known what I want my brand to be, but I've never been able to write it down as clearly before. (Thanks, Meera!)I've read a lot about branding and email marketing, but the perspective Meera offers and the way everything is broken down makes this book something I know I will go back to over and over. I have identified some key points to work on right away, but I imagine I'll always be able to re-read this and find something new as my business evolves. There were some fantastic ideas about trip wires and I'm very eager to go implement more into my marketing. This book is worth way more than Meera is charging for it - the chapters are so loaded with information that it could be turned into a course and sold for hundreds. (I'm really not exaggerating!) Do your business a favor and read this book ASAP - you will be so happy you did!

Review

“Steven Raichlen really nails everything you need to know. As someone who has been smoking meat his whole life, even I found new ground covered in this smart, accessible book.” --Myron Mixon, author and host of BBQ Pitmasters, Smoked, and BBQ Rules “If your version of heaven has smoked meats waiting beyond the pearly gates, then Project Smoke is your bible.” --Tom Colicchio, author, chef/owner Crafted hospitality, and host of Top Chef  “Nothin’ but great techniques and recipes. I am especially excited about the Smoked Cheesecake recipe.” --Aaron Franklin, author and chef/owner Franklin Barbecue “In his latest book, Project Smoke, Steven takes on the next frontier in the barbecue world, devoting his attention to the art of smoking….Project Smoke is both an indispensible guidebook to mastering smoking techniques and a cookbook billowing with innovative recipes, from the usual suspects like appetizers and meats to the more surprising desserts, cocktails, and condiments.”—Taste of the South “The book is loaded with gorgeous, I-need-to-make-that-right now photos, but it’s also a super accessible soup-to-nuts primer on everything you need to know, and then some, whether you’re a novice, an enthusiast, or a total all-out smoked food addict. There’s hot smoking and cold-smoking, smoke-braising, tea-smoking, “caveman” smoking direct on embers, and stovetop smoking. Who wouldn’t want to know the 10 steps to perfect brisket, or how to make best-ever Chinese barbecued pork, smoked nachos, and bacon from scratch?”—Food & Wine online “Project Smoke faithfully handles classics like smoked ribs, pork shoulder, and salmon, but also gleefully forays into unexpected categories like cheese, desserts, and cocktails. An excellent how-to for those fired up about smoke.”—Booklist “Raichlen is the undisputed master of the grill; his 27 cookbooks include 10 devoted specifically to grilling. Of all his recipes that I have tried, I have never encountered one that failed to impress. And most were not just impressive, they were superb, worthy of serving to guests. It’s not just that he apparently understands every possible element of grilling and smoking, it’s that he also intuitively knows what kind of flavor combinations go best with grilled food.” —St. Louis Post-Dispatch "Raichlen’s comprehensive approach to exploring the mysteries of outdoor cooking remains peerless. “Project Smoke” is a tour de force." —The Washington Post

If firing up the smoker is losing its thrill - maybe, the family complains about eating pulled pork for two weeks?! Then you need this book! Even if you just want to cook a Pork Butt and drink beer, there are still tons of sides, deserts and various other dishes that you can be doing at the same time, make the most of that same good smoke. You will also be able to make the most of lesser known cuts of meat if you find them on sale at the market.

Fantastic book, all you need to get started and perfect your smoking. This and Franklin Barbecue: A Meat-Smoking Manifesto should be all you need to smoke anything you can think of and do it well.PS: Unlike some self-loving "I am the best, buy my books because they tell you how good I am" super BBQ champions, these two authors provide complete recipes and techniques that actually work and produce amazing results.Best of luck with your smoking.

I highly recommend this book, whether you are new to smoking or have been at it for a while. Due to where I live I need to use an electric smoker, and all of the recipes I have tried so far have worked great and translate well to electric. The smoked deviled egg recipe is fantastic. I have been wanting to make smoked deviled eggs for a long time but couldn't think of a way to make it worth without overlooking the egg, and this book has the perfect solution. The brisket and pulled pork recipes are also solid. So many recipes to choose from, ans they range from basic to very creative. I highly recommend this book!

If you are interested in smoking, this book is fantastic. The cherry-glazed baby backs alone are worth the price of this incredibly informative book. I have been smoking for nearly 10 years and I learn something new every time I pick up Project Smoke. So far, EVERY recipe that I have tried has been exceptional. The St. Louis Style Ribs with Brown Sugar, Butter, and Vanilla glaze are beyond anything you will find at a restaurant. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned smoker, I recommend this book for you.

Bought this as a Kindle book, and am very disappointed that it only has book sections (beef, pork, desserts etc) that you can click on, not the actual recipe, or a recipe listing. To find a recipe, you have to go, page by page by page through every single recipe to see what the book has. If you find a recipe you like you better bookmark it right away or forever go through pages until you find it again. Doesn't even have an index of recipes in the back of the book. I hate cookbooks like this but come across them every now and then in Kindle format.

Like so many other people, I've long been a fan of Steven Raichlen's BBQ mastery, both from his PBS shows and his many cookbooks. Certainly, I've learned to rely on his recipes over the years. So when we purchased a second smoker (having worn out our first, inexpensive one), it was a no-brainer to buy this. One reason I reached for this book first was the certainty that Raichlen would give solid, reliable advice to help me get started. For example, he explains the options for flavoring the raw food (salting, curing, brining, marinades, etc.); he makes the differences in smoking methods sound simple; and he includes easy-to-read charts for identifying which woods are used for smoking regionally. Best of all, he keeps you relaxed through all this education, so you can remember that the point of all this is to enjoy yourself.Ultimately, you turn to a book like this for the recipes -- both the basics ("just tell me how to make a brisket") and more exotic items. And as usual, Raichlin is a winner in every category. Chapters are devoted to basics and "the seven steps to smoking nirvana" and explanations of smoker types (35 pages on that, so it's far more than a vague arm-wave); starters; beef; pork; lamb; burgers, sausages, and more; poultry, seafood; vegetables, side dishes, and meatless smoking; desserts; cocktails. We've only had the book (and the new smoker) for a few weeks, but we already have made several items -- intentionally starting small, as I prefer to make mistakes when it doesn't say "serves 10." Our Thanksgiving meal started with smoked planked Camembert with jalapeños and pepper jelly -- though in respect for the spice wimps we used kumquat jelly and pushed the peppers to the side. It was super-simple, yummy, and yet unexpected-tasting. I've also made the smoked eggs (originally with the intention of using 'em in his smoked chopped-liver appetizer, until the liver-haters talked me out of it). And although the "red hot wings with Pac-Rim seasonings" is marked as an appetizer, it was a good (and easy to throw together!) meal for the two of us (plus leftovers). His simple recipe for smoked tri-tip (a dry rub of salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried rosemary) was just the ticket for a lazy Sunday afternoon meal, wherein I could spend more attention fiddling with the new gizmo's controls (such as learning that the smoker is JUST out of Bluetooth range of my home office, ah well). It's obvious that we have to try his "slam dunk brisket" (how could we not?). I already have a duck in the freezer, so next up is apt to be the recipe for tea-smoked duck. I also bought the cold-smoker attachment, so surely I also have to make the Bornholm cold-smoked lax, right? No matter which recipe Raichlen is sharing, though, he's darned good at the job. His own voice comes through loud-and-clear -- you know his preferences! -- but the instructions never make you guess, or realize too late that you were supposed to put something on to soak 20 minutes ago. It's a winner.

Project Smoke was a god send for me. Not only does it give some really good recipes, it also gives information on how to smoke different meats with different woods, with different smoker types. Want to smoke a pork loin (And I highly recommend doing so) but don't have a specific recipe for one? No problem. There is a section on what types of wood works best with what types of meats. In each chapter there is a chart that shows what temperature to set you smoker and what target you should hit for internal temperature. So in the pork chapter, all that I had to do was look for pork loin in the meat chart, set my smoker. The intro discussed the various wood types and how well they pair with a meat type. Easy as pie. This cook book encouraged me to expand my horizons, and do chicken breasts, pork loins, even a turducken! I going to try the Whiskey double smoked turkey tomorrow night for a pot-luck at work on Thursday. I included a pic of a pork loin that I smoked that I was inspired to do with this cook book. It had a very nice smoke ring, and the flavor was incredible. It took a very poor tasting hatfield barbecue pork loin and made it in to one of the best things I got out of my smoker! That wasn't even a recipe in the book, just went off the discussion on wood types, and temperature guides. The recipe's themselves are also pretty good.

The books is beautiful and includes insights into places that sometimes not even the natives know which is a huge plus. But In Latin America and the Caribbean is common for places and restaurants to close after only a couple of years so a lot of the information regarding Brazil, Argentina, Peru is not updated. I followed their online articles for up to date tips.

Nice present for a trip lover. I bought it for a friend of mine, and in the overall it is good. It covers lots of places, and some pictures are really good. It includes restaurants and hotels, and it is easy to read.

Great writing, easily organized by location. This book gives a great overview of each destination. Use this book as a guide to then buy a more specific guide book once you choose which vacation spot you are headed to. Really nice looking book, too.

Exactly what I expected! Came on day of expected delivery

I'm not sure how long "The New York Times" has run this feature, but as a subscriber since 1964 it seems like an institution in my traveling life. We've used it for dozens of cities; a few that come to mind are Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, Portland (Maine and Washington), Santa Fe, the Grand Canyon, and many, many more. The pattern is almost always the same with a pleasant mix of restaurants, night spots, museums, walks, all keyed to a rather frantic, but nonetheless, achievable visit. On four occasions we followed the itinerary exactly, and were surprised that they were very accurate. It is well worth while to visit the travel website and search on the target city no matter how recent the 36 Hour tour has been published. Sometimes late breaking stories (or even much older ones) suggest changes in the itinerary that prove to be fascinating. And, even if you don't plan to go to a city, it is great fun to visit a new place using the 36 Hour tour, and then exploring further online, often on the resources listed in the tour.I'm not sure how or if the "Times" will update this excellent travel reference. My only suggestion would be that it be published in a Kindle version -- it would make a great iPhone application add-on on the ground in the target city. I know that for sure: I often convert the 36 Hour page to a text version on the "Times" website, copy the text, and email it to myself. Works like a charm, but that work around won't work with a hard copy version like this one.Robert C. RossApril 2015
