Drank 2 or 3 of these a day, felt better than ever!

Great read !

This isn't a design book. You won't be told how to decorate your Craftsman or Ikea furnished apartment to look like a Hawaiian Tiki bar. It's a book about people who for the most part live by the ocean, don't own million dollar homes and I loved it! Don't confuse this with Surf Shack by Nina Freudenberger which was a waste of printing paper and ink. If you think of surfers and how they live then this is the book for your daydreams.

Was underwhelmed with variety and visual presentation of featured shacks.

This book is incredible! Beautiful photos, inspiring interviews, great design. Such a cool, eclectic collection of surfers from around the world!

Let's start by saying I returned the book. Simply not enough pictures to warrant the title ! Mainly interviews, which were much too long, and few pictures to back up what the owners said about their homes. It left me constantly turning the page for more, only to find another new interview which left me feeling exactly as the previous one did. I found it frustrating. Author should have interviewed fewer people and added more actual photos of "SURF SHACKS".

I was expecting interesting eclectic homes. I was disappointed for the most part. Lots of basic homes with a few beach accents. It seems like the main criteria for being included in the book was being an insider in the surf industry.

Not much to the content of the book. Its mainly a photo album of Instagram-like detail shots from the different dwellings it's supposed to showcase. Wish I would have returned it when I had the chance.

Tangerine Pudding Cake with Raspberry Coulis Usually a pudding cake is made with lemon, but here the zest and juice of ultra-sweet tangerines assume the citrus role. The exact variety isn’t crucial—I’ve used Pixie tanger¬ines, which peak in mid-April, Satsumas, which arrive in November, and those that fall in between, such as Honeybell, Page, Dancy, and so forth. A pudding cake requires a water bath, so be sure you have a large enough baking dish to hold your custard cups. Serves 4-6 Pudding 3 eggs, separated ⅛ teaspoon salt ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons organic sugar 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature 2 teaspoons finely grated tangerine zest 1 cup milk or light cream ⅓ cup tangerine juice (from 2 to 4 tangerines, depending on their size) 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour Raspberry Coulis (recipe follows) Softly whipped cream Directions Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly butter 4 custard cups or six smaller ramekins. Zest, then juice the tangerines. Put up a kettle of water to boil for the water bath. Whisk the egg whites with the salt on medium speed until foamy. Increase the speed and gradually add 2 table¬spoons of the sugar and continue beating until the whites are thick and glossy. Scrape them into a large bowl. Rinse out the mixing bowl, wipe it dry, and return it to the mixer. Beat the butter with the remaining ½ cup sugar and tan¬gerine zest until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolks one at a time. When well mixed, gradually pour in the milk and juice, then whisk in the flour. Pour the batter over the whites and fold together. Distribute among the custard cups, then put the cups in a larger baking pan and add boiling water to come halfway up the sides of the cups. Bake until the tops have risen, are golden, and spring back when pressed with a finger, about 30 minutes. Remove them from the water bath. Serve slightly warm or at room temperature, the coulis drizzled over the puddings and with a small cloud of whipped cream. Raspberry Coulis 3 tablespoons sugar 3 cups frozen organic, unsweetened raspberries 3 tablespoons orange Muscat wine or other sweet wine, optional 1 teaspoon fresh lemon or tangerine juice Bring ⅔ cup water to a boil with the sugar, stir, and simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Add the raspber¬ries, simmer for 1 minute, then turn off the heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Force the juice through the sieve with a rubber scraper. Stir in the wine and the lemon juice, adding more to taste if needed, then chill. Edamame and Sesame Puree on Black Seaweed Crackers Well, this pale green puree would be good on sesame crackers too but looks so great against the black seaweed crackers. This is one use of soybeans I like. Makes about 1 1/2 cups, enough for about 20 crackers. 1 ½ cups shelled fresh or frozen edamame beans (not in the pods) Sea salt ¼ teaspoon minced garlic 1 ½ teaspoons toasted sesame oil 1 teaspoon or more to taste Meyer lemon juice ½ teaspoon toasted black sesame seeds—more if you’re making crackers for a crowd 1 very thinly slivered green onion on the diagonal, for garnish Bring a few cups of water to a boil. Add the edamame, a few pinches salt, and return to a simmer. Cook until they’re done, about 4 minutes, then drain, but reserve at least 1 cup of the cooking water. Put the edamame in a food processor with the garlic, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Pulse to puree, adding the reserved cooking water as needed to make the mixture smooth and creamy, about ½ cup but possibly more. Add lemon juice to taste and check again for salt. Scrape the puree into a shallow bowl and run a knife back and forth over the top. Drizzle the remaining sesame oil over the top, then scatter over the sesame seeds and the green onions. Serve at room temperature with crackers, or mound the puree on each, add a few extra black sesame seeds and garnish with slivered green onion.

By way of background, I am an experienced - albeit not a gourmet - cook, with a wish to have more vegetarian options in my repertoire. This is the best cookbook that I've ever used, and comparable to the Joy of Cooking is its range and everyday utility. I believe that people's mileage does vary widely in using cookbooks. In my case, I've bought a number of Mark Bittman's books, because I love his philosophy, and like his meal planning and modular approach to cooking. I really appreciate the underlying thinking that cooking should be less recipe driven and more of a flexible approach to what's in your kitchen, or fresh and seasonal. That said, I've found many of the recipes that I've tried to be very pedestrian in flavor - they taste like they were created by health conscious folks in the 70's. Other recipes have had seasoning that is so pronounced that the end result is inedible (3 Tablespoons of cumin? Really??? Was that a typo?), had major timing issues, or required ingredients that I generally don't have. However, other people do love using his cookbooks, so YMMV.What I've liked about the Deborah Madison cookbook : 1. every single recipe has turned out from "very good' to 'Wow!..awesome!" 2. From my relatively well stocked larder, I can almost always find the ingredients 'in house' There are plenty of recipes to address cooking the staple vegetables and proteins (tofu, etc.) that are common to have. Equivalents/ substitutions are noted, and multiple uses for many recipes are also mentioned. Somehow, it's been much more successful in prompting me to cook with a modular, flexible approach - something I'd really wanted from the Bittman books, but not actually achieved. 3. It's changed my approach to vegetables, from treating them as an afterthought - the "just saute or microwave a bunch of broccoli" school of thought to using sauces that make vegetables a true pleasure to eat. 4. Clear, clear, crystal clear instructions. I can now prepare a golden, crusted tofu that is a huge improvement over my previous efforts.5. Pretty comprehensive - the joy of an all-purpose cook book.If you're unsure about purchasing, try out a few recipes first. Then, you will buy the book.

Massive, thorough book. I love love love this cookbook. It reads more like a kind person teaching you how to cook. For example, it doesn't say, "Make sure that the vegetables are evenly spaced while cooking." It says "make sure the vegetables are evenly spaced in the bottom of the pan in an even layer while cooking-if they’re too close together and are touching, it won’t cook evenly and will stick to each other.” I love that attention to detail. Perhaps for other folks, that may not be what they like nor need, but for me, and never being taught how to cook, it’s always been a bit overwhelming. Reading a recipe I am always like, ok, I’ll make sure do to it. But with this book it’s like she’s explaining why you do the things you do while cooking. She thoroughly explains everything. History, the dos and don’ts, the breakdown and basis for all foods. It’s lovely. I’m not a picture person (they don’t help me cook really) so I didn’t mind that the pages weren’t glossy and there weren’t many pictures. I highly, highly recommend this cookbook!ONE CAVEAT. The printing process of this was a little questionable... I received this with some quality issues with the pages, the first 10 pages or so had a dog eared part that wasn’t cut properly (See pictures) If you are ordering this for a gift, I’d highly suggest not getting it from here if that’s something that concerns you. However, for me, seeing the cover price on the inside, and then knowing I paid half that, I’m fine cutting off a little dog eared pages.

This is a revision of the award winning classic, Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone. It is well worth buying, even if you own the original version. I have been cooking recipes from the original since before it was published, having been lucky to take a class from Madison when she was working on it. All of the original recipes are here, but there are also 200 new ones, making the total 1,600. The recipes have been completely reformatted; now they are in a 2 column per page format, and are actually easier to read than in the original, but there are fewer pages! a total of 665. The drawings and photos have been dropped, likely since the publisher has changed to 10 Speed press. However, since only a few of the recipes had photos to begin with, the book does not suffer from it.We used the 10th anniversary Edition of this book as one of the texts in the all vegetarian cooking school I graduated from. It is now better than ever, with the addition of a comprehensive discussion of vegetarian ingredients, such as sweeteners, vinegar, herbs, and edible flowers. Recipes that can be made Vegan are now clearly marked with a big V in a circle. But truly what sets this cookbook apart from the rest, besides how encyclopedic it is, is the quality of the recipes. Everything I have made from here over the past 17 years has been outstanding. The sort of recipes that everyone loves, even non-vegetarians. There is fresh pasta, Asian noodles, the fabulous Galettes, stir fries, soups, salads, desserts, dumplings, omelettes, and of course vegetable sides, beans, and grains. And of course much more! For me, this book has helped me a lot. It has totally opened my eyes and given me clarity to why I have some of the feeling that I have. I have been in recovery for 8 years and while I don't struggle anymore with any cravings to drink, I still have problems with my feelings getting hurt and taking things personally. I am very much into working a 12-step program and going to a therapist but until I read this book and read his explanations about why I might be experiencing these feelings, I just didn't know!For me, this book has made all of the difference in the world and have provided me with peace and serenity because I am now aware of why I go through these feelings and I can actively work on issues as they come up using this book as a guide. I have to admit, that when I first started reading his explanations about differentiation, I didn't quite understand it and had to re-read it and I still wasn't quite bought into his ideas. As I got further into the book, it really started to come together. Chapter 3, "Stop Taking Things Personally" was the clincher and made me a believer in this man and his book. I have to admit that I have not finished the book as I don't have a lot of time to read, but I will continue to read it until the end as there is no telling what other great information I will get from this book.So far, what I have read makes me very happy with my purchase.

I am a recovering alcoholic with less than two years of sobriety. This book has opened my eyes to a number of concepts which give me great hope. I now understand that many of my so called problems are really products of my own emotional immaturity. We create a "false self" that keeps us from experiencing the joys & struggles of life. The author introduces some practical self assessments that reveal why we react rather than respond in relationships. I am grateful to Allen Berger for sharing his struggles and discoveries in his own recovery. This book will help anyone who is willing to pursue the great adventure of discovering their emotional serenity.

In no uncertain terms this was and is the best “user’s guide” to processing and redirecting your character defects (emotionally based) that I have come across. Simple, insightful, relatable. Like all books of this type, you must read and APPLY the techniques. That said, once I started using each practical tool and concept, chapter by chapter (12, but of course), my perspective, habits, and emotional responses changed as well. And continue to evolve. I gave a copy to my sponsor, one to my psych and one to a like-minded friend. They are in total agreement with its value and use it/reco it to people who they are helping. Does buying 4 copies constitute a ringing endorsement? And then some.The author is knowledgeable, but, better yet, is a 30-year recovering friend of Bill W. who regularly imparts Big Book lingo into his paragraphs. Not direct quotes, you will pick up on them immediately. You will here the Steps, Preamble and How It Works throughout and smile when you do. I have not been so enthused by a self-help work in my life. Personally: down 60lbs in 95 days; becoming emotionally sober; and, able to understand and process my emotions and life view into healthy perspective.Buy it. Use it. Win with it.

I love this book, and I have probably read it 8 times and will probably read it 8 more times minimum. You don't need to be an alcoholic or a drug addict to benefit from these skills for becoming emotionally sober or as I would tag it, spiritually mature!! There is SO much here to help anyone learn to look at life and situations from a more freeing perspective. I can't say enough about this book! One of my all time biggest blessings!!

I have been in recovery for 28 years and am very familiar with Bill Wilson's letter on Emotional Sobriety. I have been reading and studying this piece of writing in an attempt to have my deeper rooted character defects "cast out" as the 12-step process had done with my alcoholism in my early sobriety. It wasn't until I read Dr. Berger's book that not only was I able to identify more fully with Bill's dilemma (one unhealthily dependent person to another unhealthily dependent person), but was provided with awareness and concrete direction as to what I could do about it! Truth is, I sat down to read a few chapters and had a powerful awakening to my problem and its solution... I could not put this book down until I was finished. Dr. Berger spoke to my dis-ease and my emotional recovery. I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling for lasting inner peace.

Great small book with many helpful points and good examples. I would give it 5/5 stars but by the middle of the book the author gets a bit repetitive and long-winded.

An absolute MUST-READ for anyone in recovery of any kind. I absolutely love it and need it. Thank you, Dr. Berger!

A paper-thin 'book' with large font that could be reduced to perhaps 5 pages of stock tips and tangential self-help. Much of the contents are suggestions such as 1. Don't trade when you're upset, 2. Eat healthily and enjoy life, 3. Trading is easy, 4. Actually trading is hard and 90% of people fail at it, 5. Don't trade to make money but trade to be a good person, 6. Be truthful to yourself (what?)The 'book' is lazy, typo ridden (on every other page) and far from insightful. Moreover, the author spends 10% of the 'book' trying to sell you his online courses, culminating in him asking for good reviews on amazon.com!! (Which perhaps is why there are so many 5 stars - I'm baffled)

Scam. Book is the size of a pamphlet with constant repeated information. Stay away.

Useless, just like his course he is trying to make money of.

This is the second book I've read from this author and both were well written, brief and concise - my kind of read. He has a knack for making the complex understandable and offers a lot of tips and details on what your getting into. You may also want to check-out his YouTube videos, same kind of deal. I'll be ordering his other books.

My takeaway from Matt Kratter's book is: making money trading is simple, but it is not easy! There are rules and discipline and the market is not a benevolent being. It will call you out if you stray.The chapter on trading psychology is extremely important. My reading has focused here in the last several months. Even if the rules and discipline are in place, you'll suffer as a trader if your mindset is not aligned. My trading has drastically improved since I brought my mindset aboard.I see this new book as a package, together with his other books, not for beginners, but for those who have really put in the time and effort to learn and improve their trading performance. I have read hundreds of books on trading and always turn back to reread Matt Kratter's for the clarity and simplicity of individual aspects of trading.This new book spurs me to reflect on my journey in putting all the pieces together and points out a few more places where I can put my effort to become truly successful at trading.

Overall i enjoyed this book. It is very short, but that means that I can re-read it periodically whenever I am feeling discouraged about a bad streak. For experienced traders there will now be a ton of new information, but for the rookie trader willing to learn, it has some pearls of wisdom. The only real critique I would have is that some of the information is a bit simplistic, such as the advice to trade to become a better person. I agree that money should not be your only motivation to trade, but I would argue that character development is only one side of the equation. Overall, a great read and a great value!

I don’t write many reviews, but I believe this books deserves 5 stars. I’ve read many books over the years and I have my own believes. I read new books just for knowledge. This books condensed all the right things and is to the point. After my years of experience if I had to recommend on how to trade it would be everything in this book.

I have several of Matthew Kratter's books (some freebies, some paid) and I absolutely LOVE the fact that I can read one of his books in a short time and feel like I know what to do - just a bit of practice is needed. He gives me what I nee to know without all the fluff in most other books.This book, while not as focused as his others, demonstrates that Matthew has "been there" and "done that". Since I started reading his books (and some others, too), I have been increasingly successful at trading.. Coincidence?. I doubt it... Thank you, Matthew, for sharing your experience with the rest of us in such an affordable way... Solid gold...
