This book is SIMPLY ASTOUNDING! and serves as a just document of the great influence that George Barris had on the world of custom cars.While I consider myself well versed on the automotive world, I came away a bit shocked on how prolific George Barris was. It's mind boggling that one man could oversee the creation of so much.The book is a whopping 496 pages long and filled with a good balance of text and images. This is not just a book with pretty pictures. It offers "real information" that informs the reader in a concise yet comprehensive way. In addition to the general text, each image is labeled so the reader can understand its significance. The pictures ultimately tell the story of the end result --- great custom vehicles. Of course, the quality of the images vary greatly since the sources vary. These images are blended well to make the reading experience enjoyable. The images and information are not so dense that the reader is overwhelmed. The book is hard to fault for its content.If I were to criticize the book, I would have hoped for the material to be presented in a more chronological fashion. I understand that many of the cars and Barris' endeavors need to categorized into silos. However, I really wanted to see how his art progressed over time. Its always useful to see how time and experience influences an artist's output. I found myself a bit confused trying to mentally sort out which cars came when. Fortunately most images are at least labeled with a year.The other element I would have like to see improved is - ironically - the coverage of the Batmobile. When most people think of George Barris, they usually think of the Batmobile first, after all its on the cover of the book. The author holds off covering the Batmobile until the latter part of the book. I was eager to read this and see a great spread of images. I was disappointed. The write up was decent, but the images simply do not do justice to the car. There are too few, they are poorly arranged and there really aren't the 360 degrees of glamour shots that I expected to see of arguably his ultimate achievement. I was surprised by this given how great the rest of the book is.With that said, the book is still a gem ... and deserves FIVE STARS, because the shortcomings are completely offset by the stellar quality of the rest of the book. This book serves as an excellent testament to George Barris' influence on custom vehicles, the entertainment industry and pop culture.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A MUST BUY FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN GEORGE BARRIS OR CUSTOM VEHICLES ...

This could be the illustrated catalog of a museum’s collection of every photo ever taken by or of Geogre Barris plus pics of every Barris related item ever made including custom car, model car, bicycle, minibike, dune buggy, boat, toy, brochure, magazine cover, accessory kit, etc.It gets an A for quantity, a D for organization and clarity, and an F for selectivity. Important cars are often shown in three or four different chapters because of the confusing organization of the book. This is an excellent example of more being less. The authors were unable to leave out any trivial item. The single largest section concerns cars that appeared in movies.Readers can find information on every one of Barris’s major creations but it is usually buried in a pile of trivia. There is little analysis of topics like how custom cars evolved, rods vs. customs , how custom cars affected manufacturers’ decisions on styling. This could be good source material for a more skilled author who wants to write a better book on the topic.

Well worth the wait! Love the format of this book including the beautiful cover! It is a big, heavy book with lots of insight to the Barris legacy! Thanks to Brett for doing it! I had the pleasure of visiting the showroom some years back, before George's batmobile went up for auction and took many pictures of that original there. A memorable visit for me!

An absolutely FANTASTIC book about the incredible life of George Barris. Of course, most people know him for his work with the Batmobile and other Hollywood vehicles, but George had an entire career before Hollywood came calling. Hundreds and hundreds of pages of high quality photographs and details about the builds. This book will be a keepsake forever. Incredible book giving a full history of George Barris, and his fantastic cars. Mostly color photos, and many cars I remember but have nearly forgotten. This man creations, range from Beach Buggies, to Auto Show cars , to TV star Cars. This Book will be of interest to anyone who loves custom cars.

This book has lots of neat pictures. Also the captions under the pictures are very interesting and informative. This book tells you about every vehicle that George has ever built and it tells you how he got started in the car customizing business. This book has the perfect title. If you are a car guy or car girl and you are a fan of George Barris then this is the book to get!!!!

Great book filled with great kustoms and all sorts of other cool Barris stuff. Probably the best Barris book out there. Lots of great pictures I have not seen published anywhere.A "must have" for any car guy.

Todd has been one of my favorite comedians, and in my opinion, one of the best active comedians, for a very, very long time. So, when his egregiously titled book "Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg: One Comedian's Tour of Not-Quite-the-Biggest Cities in the World" came out, I knew I had to read it right away. I was not disappointed. As a fan of his comedy, one can read the entire thing and imagine him telling you the stories in his plodding, deliberate tone, which consequently caused me to laugh out loud on several occasions. If you are a fan of Todd, definitely read this, but there is a lot of meat on the bone for general fans of stand-up comedy or just fans of road diaries (if there is such a thing). A fun read and well-written (as to be expected with Todd's ever-present OCD), which is a nice change from other memoirs of super mega stars (I'm looking at you, Andy Warhol).

Todd's humor translates beautifully to the written word. I literally laughed out loud throughout this hilarious book of travel memories. I also learned quite a bit about sky miles, hotel reward points, and what it is really like to travel on the road for your work. Todd's self-deprecating humor--interspersed with his faux boasting--keeps the pages turning and will keep a smile on your face as well. This is a great book, fun to read (or listen to Todd read if you get the audible version like I did), and a great addition to a comedy fan's library.

After being late the to the Todd Barry Party (a phrase I just invented), I felt compelled to find out more about this hilarious (new to me) comedian. I saw his most recent special one night and my partner and I laughed so much to the point of tears and I was howling. I am very happy when I find a comedian that makes me cry with laughter. I found this book and had to read it. I found a lot of similarities between me and Todd and while that might not make you buy the book, I think you’ll find this book very funny, honest and candid and above all a glimpse of his exciting life touring the country - sadly I’ll miss him when he comes to my town next week but I’m hoping to see him live soon.

Todd Barry is hilarious on stage, but sadly his book is not. Even though I was disappointed that this book isn't that funny, I'm glad I read it b/c it gives a real insider's view of life as a standup comedian. It chronicles the loneliness of eating alone, the hassles of traveling/staying in crappy hotels, and the constant search for decent restaurants (or coffee shops in Todd's case). I found this aspect interesting, but perhaps a bit repetitive as the chapters seems to overlap and repeat themselves often. If you are looking for a funny book, this is not it. If you are looking for a book that reveals the life of a comedian, this is the perfect book for you.

Lost track of the times I laughed out loud.I stood next to him once, in the back of the crowd, before he performed at Red Star in Greenpoint as the star special guest of the, now defunct, monthly Pirate Party comedy night. He seemed at ease and laughed along with jokes of the other comedians. Didn't even realize I was next to him until he was announced and walked up to the mic to deliver a hilarious set. I now know it was all for show and he was scanning the venue, sizing us up, listening for jokes to avoid. What was going through his head? Nice, low ceilings if I remember right. Hipster crowd, obviously in Greenpoint, so he could use his big words. I don't think there was a green room, so major points off, and I don't remember the bathroom as all that great and I think it was downstairs, too. It's amazing he was able to deliver as great of a performance as he did!If there's any chance this FAMOUS AS HELL guy gets down and reads his book reviews: Todd, check out "credit card churning". Will really help your travel game.

Maybe not for everyone, but I love travel books, and this one is funnier than most. He shares his combination of mellowness and insecurity in his travels around North American coffee shops and comedy clubs. The book is a good choice for those who like travel journals, the comedy scene, and one person's view of small city USA.

This book is hilarious! Todd has a gift for describing each city and scenario perfectly so you feel like you were there. I also like how he included stories from previous visits to some towns. Made me wish I could travel more. Todd is a little snarky when he needs to be, but also seems like someone who can find the good in any place or situation. Nice mentions for many of his opening acts. Also you learn a little bit about how to act as a comedy fan!

Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg is light on humor and heavy on what feels like a hundred identical stories of Todd's travels to secondary markets to do stand-up. Basically, he arrives in town gets coffee, complains about his hotel, talks about the last time he was in town and describes the current show all without much depth. Maybe it's the comedians decades on the road where things have become mundane to him and it comes through in his writing.

I was very disappointed in this book, I thought I was going to read one story about a lawyer, and ended up with three short stories. I'd like my money back people. If I wanted short stories I would have purchased short stories. Why name the book The Family Lawyer? That's misleading to me. That's what I thought I was going to read.

I just can't believe How disappointed I am in what books are coming out with James Patterson's names on them or associated with him.I would faithfully buy any book by him, not any more. Just mass producing garbage. It doesn't seem to be about the quality anymore. Very disappointed.

As I said in a recent review, I am finding more Patterson books that I don't really like. When I order one I can't assume that it will be as good as his previous books. I think it has a lot to do with the authors who write for him. THE LAWYER was 3 individual stories. One was good and the other 2 were just so-so.I love the Womens' Murder Club and Alex Cross and Michael Bennett. But the individual books are falling short for me.

The first of three stories was good (4 stars) The second and third series were not up to par with what I would expect James Patterson to allow representing him.I have been a Patterson fan for many years but lately have been disappointed

It was a nice book. I haven't read anything by James Patterson before. This book is actually,three stories (novellas?) by this guy Patterson and three other authors. They're not bad.It must be nice for Patterson to get other folks to write his stories for him.Be warned, Family Lawyer is only one of the three stories.

James Patterson has done it again. The short stories he wrote was right on. The stories kept my attention and I did not want to put my kindle down, therefore I have rated the book5 stars.I would recommend this book to those readers who are new to James Patterson.

What a disappointment, especially the third short story co written with Rachel Hall. Is Patterson just calling these in now? The third short story needed more background on the sisters, why did Miss Lawrence feel she needed to chase her sister's husband away with a gun? Is blackmailing the detective really going to stop the investigation? Don't think so when there is the detective's partner to consider. Really, there is no surprise at the end.

So disappointed. I was expecting a single book. It's not; it's disparate short stories.

This book has lots of useful information however it does also have a lot of political opinions on climate change, racism in food, and lack of diversity in farming for minorities and women. I am only half way through but I have to say that I think this book would be far more useful with this edited out. I agree with some of what he says but he keeps hammering on it and quite frankly it’s a major turnoff in my opinion.Again lots of good info just be prepared to wade through the authors political opinions to get it. I personally would rather just have the info which is why I rated it the way I did.

Very useful for farming if for no other reason than the importance of selecting tree breeds and the author's sage advice on animal husbandry in silvopastures. The bibliography and list of research studies and available notable books is worth the price of the book alone. Well written, but could have used a minor editing touch to achieve a 5. I am happy I bought and read this book as a beginning farmer, but it may have some use to more advanced farmers.

If you own even a little bit of land in a temperate climate this book will set you to thinking… and maybe someday to “doing.” If you are not a land-owner but simply wonder about practical ways to reformulate human relationships with natural systems this book will satisfy equally. Anyone who advocates change needs to be ready to answer the question: “yeah, sure, that's great... but how do we do it?”Steve Gabriel’s “Silvopasture” is full of such answers.Gabriel’s prior book, “Farming the Woods”, co-authored with Ken Mudge, had a similar effect on me. It was critiqued by some for not including more information on farming with animals, but that loose end is addressed now in “Silvopasture”. Its hard to say if the book succeeds more as a fantastically detailed and lavishly illustrated guidebook to an agricultural practice you might undertake, or more of a dream book for advocates of changes in our cultural practices of land use and animal raising.“Silvopasture” is a rich weave of macro- and micro-focus, of text and illustrations, of detailed case studies, and of nuanced viewpoints. Guest authors arrive in some of the many sidebars: including Eric Toensmeier (“Silvopasture: A Powerful Tool for Carbon Sequestration”) and Kass Urban-Mead (“Silvopasture and Bees”). There’s that macro-micro thing again !The illustrations in the book are extensive and comprise a large number of information-packed diagrams as well as color photographs. The book has a physical heft and a visual power and balance that is uncommon but more and more often the result of the collaboration of Chelsea Green Publishing with talented writers like Gabriel. Their production quality is excellent.The photographs are not there just to be “eye candy” - they always serve a practical function of helping you to envision things not easily described. You can read about the different parameters of animal shelter and fencing, but seeing Gabriel’s funky wheeled sheep shelter can be an “aha” moment - realizing that functional elegance trumps visual. Folding and enrolling a long section of net fencing can make the physicists notions of “entanglement” seem trivial, but two pictures of Steve himself doing it can ease your uncertainties.As with his prior book Gabriel is not shy about drilling down to the practical economics of things. Good deeds are done for their own sake, of course, but to be done consistently and when rolled into making a life they have to support the practical realities of life-living. Gabriel is as strong a proponent of knowing one’s financial territory as of knowing one’s soil types! Again he illustrates this not with ideals but by including an actual detailed budget and with a very useful (and eye-opening) two page cash-flow chart for his own silvopasture sheep operation.We live in a culture steeped in a morally-degraded relationship to animals and food and supported precariously on an ecologically-degraded landscape. These must change. But while the drumbeat for change provides a steady bass-rhythm, it is through the ideas of books like this that the practical lyrics of the future arise.

We are all part of a team and this book is for you.Some favorite parts:"When you walk into the office, or the meeting, or into the school, hospital, or locker room, you have a decision to make. Are you going to be a germ to your team or a big dose of Vitamin C?""[Teams] give up because the obstacle seems more powerful than them and they don't have the faith to keep moving forward. But you don't have to give up. You don't have to let fear win. I've been a big fan of Robby Gallaty's ministry since I first learned about him a little more than a year ago. His emphases on discipleship and understanding the true Jesus are top notch. It is for those reasons that I was excited when I heard he was writing a book about the kingdom of heaven and its implications for the present day. I immediately bought a copy for my Kindle, and then proceeded to go to Lifeway to purchase a copy for myself.This book is an excellent look at Jesus' emphasis on the kingdom of heaven/God. Not only will you understand what it meant to its original hearers, but you'll learn what it means for Christians today. One of the biggest takeaways from this book is that we need to shift how we look at both evangelism and discipleship. Salvation is more than "fire insurance" or waiting for to receive all the benefits of heaven after we die or at Jesus' return. No, we are meant to experience the kingdom of heaven every single day of our lives. And, as such, this has a direct impact on how we live and submit to Jesus in the here and now (hence the book's title) and disciple others.Robby does a masterful job of explaining Jesus' words and preaching ministry. His chapters at the end of the book describing what the Sermon on the Mount means are paramount for how we are to live as Christians. Not only that, he explains the importance of Jesus' ministry and the kingdom as it relates the Old Testament and how the Israelites experienced kingdom living. Kingdom living isn't just a New Testament concept, but it is what God has always desired for his people."Here and Now" is a great book for anyone who wants to understand what it means to live as a kingdom citizen, which we all are as Christians. After you finish this book, I'm sure it'll change how you live & experience the rest of your life!

Always enjoy reading Gallaty's books but this once was extra motivating and encouraging to me and something I definitely recommend everyone read in 2019.

For many years I’ve been telling people that there is more to being a Christian than repeating a prayer, and then going out to ‘sin happily ever after’ because you’ve got your golden ticket, and are assured a place in heaven. I usually add that eternity with God starts at the moment of conversion, not at the moment of death.I’m one of those weird people who read the whole book—which includes the preface, the introduction, the epilogue, and even the appendices. I read the preface of Robby Gallaty’s book Here and Now: Thriving in the Kingdom of Heaven Today (B&H Books, 2019) and thought that this would probably be a book that I would enjoy. Then I read the introduction, and started to get excited. This is a book that calls Christians, followers of Christ, to actually follow Christ.There are three distinct sections to the book. First, Gallaty asks us to look at Jesus in the context of His earthly ministry (and by the way, Jesus was not a “blonde-haired, blue-eyed American Pastor”). Jesus was very much about the Kingdom of God, which he didn’t proclaim as something that began when you get to heaven. He was very much about make the Kingdom appear here on earth.The second section is a vibrant reminder that the Kingdom is here, and that as we have God within us, we are in, but not of, the world. Christians are set apart to act as God's emissaries, to show the world what it is like to be in relationship with a covenantal God. (Sounds like the mandate of Israel—to show their neighboring pagan nations what life with God was all about).And section three, “Kingdom Conduct” deals with living in a way that demonstrates that we are part of God's Kingdom come, the now but not yet part of the Christian life style. Christianity is definitely more than a set of rules and regulations, it’s not just spiritual disciplines: it’s a life style. It involves an eternity with God that starts now, not 5 seconds after we die.I received a copy of this book through the publisher’s bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review.
