I had bought this a number of months ago but just read it. This book is a total eye-opener!! I didn't realize how much I DIDN'T know about Social Security, how it works, how it's funded, etc. I also believed some of the myths about it's going broke and needing to be fixed by lowering benefits. The distinction between it being wage INSURANCE versus being some welfare program is important -- and I do now hate the term "entitlement"! But the biggest shock was reading about the 30-year long effort that rich cats (and their rich offspring) have been waging to slander and destroy the program, and how close they recently came to getting their way! It is beyond me to understand how people who are so fortunate in being well-off can be so uncaring and intent on stealing the subsistence-level support that many elderly and disabled depend on! We need to spread the truth of what is happening and why. Wake up before it's too late!

This book clarifies everything about Social Security. As a retiree who is dependent on Social Security benefits I worry that my benefits may be cut and that future generations will not have Social Security at all. The Republicans in Congress keep trying to do away with Social Security and they use scare tactics to make us believe that Social Security is not sustainable. We need to stop the Republicans from destroying this safety net that we all pay into.

Privatizing SS is a terrible idea (Wall Street and the politicians who have been bought by Wall Street love the privatization plan...big surprise!) and cutting the program is completely unnecessary! This book outlines the way forward and our elected leaders should take notice.
