Great book on how to approach your overall mixing work. Don't buy if you are looking for detailed mixing tutorial, this book is more about how to organize and approach each mix you do. It certainly had an impact on the mixing I was working on when I read it. Not a lot of pages, but you'll want to read it slowly and consider what's written carefully to see how it impacts your own work.
I know it is not the best way to learn about mixing but you should be really interested if you are looking for a guide. It is a book for whom who loves audio and music.I won't add more, it is everything here and I know Thomas had been working on different books separately. Sometimes when you are mixing you are in it, yeah, but you don't feel that, it is not a question of a high gear, it is about how you would convert that mix in a touch-feeling product and the fact it is that you really need to know what you are going to do.I like it, really.
I actually just went ahead and brought all 4 books and already read 3 of them...I love the fact that these books are just the right length to read in one sitting and packed with really good tips and information.It has opened my eyes up to some of the things I’ve done wrong and things I’ve done right I can’t wait for the Vocal book to come out :)
This book is exactly what I needed after I graduated from a University with a degree in music. I learned the more technical side of mixing in my classes, but never really touched the philosophy of mixing.
Very helpful perspective
It was knowledgeable. I enjoyed it.
Interesting read helps to understand the process of mixing in a different aspect then you would think definitely going to read the rest of the books in this series
The author doesn’t go into a whole lot of detail and the book itself is maybe an hour read. This is actually a good thing in my opinion since as the author states, the main focus should be on determining what your vision for a mix is and not what an engineer is telling you to do every time for every mix.I’ll probably be going back to this book as a refresher from time to time.
