Although well-written and edited and with a little bit of a twist to the ending, I still can't say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I believe that is because I found the heroine so irritating. She seemed to be the queen of assumptions, failing to note the first three letters that begin that word; she also seemed prone to stupidly impulsive actions. It just doesn't make for smooth reading when one wants to grab the protagonist by the shoulders and slap her upside the head! Still, there are a lot of pluses to the novel, so I would recommend that devotees of the cozy genre give it a try, and not be put off by my dislike of the protagonist.
Sharpe Turn (Cozy Suburbs Mystery Series Book 4)...finds Deena in another mystery as to who killed the famous author's wife. Max Dekker is a famous author, who the local librarian booked to conduct a writing class. Deena had already signed up for a cooking class so she could make her husband Gary's favorite cake for his 60th birthday. Deena was on a mission to prove to her mother-in-law that she was capable of making Gary's cake this year. But then the author's wife is killed in a car accident or was it an accident? Deena's sleuthing mind went into gear and Deena finds herself not taking the class she had signed up for, but for a writing class with the author, who was Alexis Dekker's husband. As time goes by, more and more people are added to Deena's suspect list, getting herself more and more into the murder case, and with the help of her friend's husband Ian, who is also Deena and Gary's lawyer, Dan an investigative reporter, and others, Deena puts the pieces together. But the one clue she gets that puts everything into perspective is from an unlikely source. This is one book you will not want to put down once Deena gets closer and closer to solving the murder.
Another fun story by Lisa Thomas. Her writing is easy to understand. She keeps you guessing till the end. I enjoy her familiar characters. This was another great book by Ms Thomas. I look forward to more.
I love the heroine, Deena, in Sharpe Turn. She's no youngster, yet possesses more than the average woman's smarts and guts. She's down-to-earth, and also shows a vulnerable side in her attempts to please her somewhat demanding mother-in-law.The plot in Sharpe Turn is well-written and kept me guessing. I definitely recommend Sharpe Turn as an engaging and humorous cozy.
I enjoyed this mystery, especially the main character, Deena Sharpe, am older woman who seems to be unable to stay out of trouble. Deena is going to try her hand at writing by attending a class given by a fairly well known author. When the author's wife is killed in a car accident the mystery begins and Deena finds herself caught in the middle. This is a well written, fun story
I am so glad that someone is writing stories not filled with sex and featuring older people. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I also have read others in this series and they are just as good
I enjoyed this mystery. It had good characters and a substantial mystery that didn't rely on unbelievable last minute revelations. I'm going to have to go back and read books 1 though 3 in this series, although starting with Book 4 gave me no problems at all.
I read all four books in the series. The main character is an older woman who solves mysteries. She is funny and smart. It's an enjoyable series.
Very glad I found this book. Enjoyed the characters and story a lot. Good book to read after reading a James Patterson or Patricia Cornwall novel. Fast read. Will definitely get other books from her.
