About the Author
Thomas a Kempis was born at Kempen, Germany, circa 1380. After joining the monastery of Mount St. Agnes in 1406, he received Holy Orders seven years later, and thereafter busied himself with prolific writing and copying work. His books include the well-known Imitation of Christ, Life of Geert Groote, and Life of Liduina of Schiedam, the latter of which he epitomized. He also possessed an earnest love for the poor and Holy Scripture. Thomas a Kempis died on the twenty-fifth of July, 1471.

This is a beautiful edition if the classic, Imitation of Christ. The translation is wonderfully archaic, and the illustrations are beautiful. However,there is something that I feel I have to say. This book was written primarily with cloistered monks in mind, so obviously there will be some parts that may be irrelevant to us Christians "in the world." For example, chapter 8 states:"Be not familiar with any woman; but recommend all good women in general to God."Obviously a married man can't really take this advice. But in spite of these "irrelevant" sentences here and there, this book is still filled with lots and lots of practical wisdom for any Christian of any age in any state of life (married, single, etc).
I purchased this book to replace an old copy that I've had for ages. This is an exact duplicate of that book. I also love the numerous engravings by Ariel Agemian which really enhance the meditative quality of the book. I've often turned to this book in times of confusion and trouble and I've never been disappointed with the reading recommendations that are in the Reading Guide in the back. This is a must have for any Christian who wants to lead a life that emulates the life of Christ. I highly recommend it.
One of the greatest instruction manuals on developing deep spirituality--so many Catholic saints have used it to accompany their prayers and worship. A true classic. Easy to read, understand, and follow. I try to read a little daily. Really helps to feel God's presence (His peace and joy).
Maintain your interior-life by practicing what's taught in this small book, written by one (Thomas A. Kempis) who received his reward many decades ago. Second only to Scripture itself in learning how to abide by God's Will, through virtue & self discipline...
The book is of course a great Catholic classic. But these illustrations are meditations in themselves!
Everyone should have a copy of this. If you are only allowed to have the Bible and one other book in choir or in your cell, this is the one.
A good product and a wonderful read. I preferred the other book by Tan with the zippered cover merely for a sturdy product for continual use
Very small and compact, this is easy carry and use anywhere at anytime.
